Ideal Knitting Patterns to Make Pet Blankets

4-ply washable yarn. You can use a needle size other than what’s suggested –
just increase or decrease the cast-ons and number of
rows accordingly. ***
“Color
Changer”
This pattern uses two
threads of yarn, so the color changes with each stitch. Try interesting
combinations of colors for a fun result! Use circular or regular needles, size
#8 (5mm).
Begin by: Using both yarns, cast on
about 65 stiches.
Rows 1-5: Knit all the way across.
Row 6: Knit 5, then purl all the way across until last five stitches. Knit
5 to end.
Row 7: Knit all the way across.
Remaining rows: Alternate rows 6 and 7 until piece
measures 16” – 18”. Cast off.
“Super
Easy”
This pattern is easy for a
beginner, but produces a blanket that’s soft and perfect for the kitties. Use
circular or regular needles, size #9 (5.5mm). Also, feel free to change the
colors for any rows and have fun with the results!
Begin by: Cast on about 75 stitches.
Row 1: Purl all the way across.
Turn.
Row 2: Knit all the way across.
Turn.
Row 3: Knit all the way across.
Turn.
Row 4: Purl all the way across.
Turn.
Row 5: Knit all the way across.
Turn.
Remaining rows: Continue repeating rows 3 – 5,
knitting, then purling, then knitting. Do
this
until the piece measures about 17 inches. Cast off.
“Mile-A-Minute”
This pattern is especially
fast, so lots of blankets can be made. Use circular or regular size #7 (4.5mm)
needles. You can use much larger needles (but decrease the number of cast ons) to make a really fluffy, airy blanket.
Begin by: Cast on about 90 stitches.
Rows 1-3: Knit all the way across.
Row 4: Knit one, purl one, knit
one, purl one, etc. all the way across.
Middle rows: Repeat row 2 until the piece is
about 16 inches.
Final rows: Knit all the way across for
three rows. Cast off.
“Stripes”
This pattern uses a size #7
(4.5mm) needle. You can use one strand of yarn, or two strands together for an
interesting look.
Begin by: Cast on about 45 stitches.
Row 1: Knit 3, * purl 1, knit
3. Repeat from * all the way across.
Row 2: Knit all the way across.
Remaining rows: Continue by alternating rows 1 and 2,
until piece is about 18 inches.
Cast off.
“8-Row
Garter”
This pattern uses a size #7
(4.5mm) needle. You’ll create a pattern of 8 rows that are repeated throughout.
Try changing the yarn color, every time you restart the pattern.
Begin by: Cast on about 46 stitches.
Rows 1-6: Knit all the way across.
Row 7: This begins the 8-row
pattern. Knit all the way across.
Row 8: Knit 6, purl 34, knit 6.
Row 9: Knit 6, purl 5, knit 4,
purl 6, knit 4, purl 6, knit 4, purl 5, knit 6.
Row 10: Knit
6, purl 34, knit 6.
Row 11: Knit all the way across.
Row 12: Knit 6, purl 34, knit 6.
Row 13: Knit 10, purl 6, knit 4,
purl 6, knit 4, purl 6, knit 4, knit 6.
Row 14: Knit 6, purl 34, knit 6.
Remaining rows: Repeat the previous 8 rows, until the
piece measures about 18 inches
and
ends with row 14. Cast off.
“Couldn’t
Be Simpler”
This pattern is perfect for
when you have yarn that changes color along the way. It’s simple and fast to
do, but the kitties love its softness! Use a larger needle to make it even
fluffier!
Begin by: Cast on about 45 stitches.
All rows: Knit 1,
purl 1, alternating all way across. Cast off.
